Architects Špela Kuhar and Robert Potokar have travelled Slovenia far and wide, exploring the country's natural beauties, cultural landmarks and authentic experiences as a couple and as a family. They picked the best of them in a guidebook that has just come out in English.

Slovenia with a Personal Touch features both well-known attractions and sights as well as hidden places that only locals and not many Slovenians know about. They also spotlight local artisans, craftsmen and architectural gems.

Kuhar and Potokar describe themselves as architects, travellers, lovers of art, history, nature and good food, who like to explore their country. They have been writing on architecture since they were students, producing books and guidebooks on Slovenian architecture, arts and culture.

In their latest guide, which came out in Slovenian last year, they picked out places they would like to visit themselves if they were to experience Slovenia for the first time and those they would recommend to their friends.

The question they seek to answer is why is Slovenia worth visiting or why is it worth getting to know better. They aimed the guide to the "lovers of the beautiful, the good and the interesting, those who don't have the time or the patience to make their own itineraries, and those who appreciate a good selection with a personal touch".

Featuring 230 sleek photographs, the book is organised into 19 chapters representing Slovenia's regions that roughly follow the widely accepted subdivisions. A brief description of each region is followed by a selection of points of interest, from cultural and natural attractions, to culinary spots, ranging from Michelin-starred restaurants to authentic local inns, to places to stay, workshops and shops.

The guidebook has been published by Beletrina.
