The acting boss since January, Vidic succeeds Matjaž Knez, who was dismissed due to serious breaches of internal rules regarding the incorporation of a subsidiary managing DARS's telecommunications infrastructure.

Vidic, 54, is a fixture in the Slovenian transport sector. He served as advisor to the DARS management in 1999-2002 before serving a stint as state secretary at the Transport Ministry in 2002-2004 and later heading the roads directorate there.
