State Secretary Marenče new boss of state forestry corporation
The appointment comes after Julijan Rupnik, director of the state-owned forestry company Snežnik from Kočevska Reka, resigned on Thursday after less than two months on the job.
Marenče is a forestry engineer with 15 years of experience mostly in the forestry sector, the Agriculture Ministry said on its website.
In October 2014 he was appointed state secretary in charge of forestry and helped draft the law on the management of state forests.
The law, which entered into force this year, envisages the establishment of Slovenian State Forests, the company managing the country's state-owned forests.
The new corporation is a result of efforts to better manage state forests, which were severely damaged in the early-2014 ice storm.
To replace Marence as state secretary, the government appointed today Marjan Podgoršek, who holds a master's degree in economics and has relevant experience also in agriculture management.
Podgoršek used to be director of state-owned investment firm DSU, a member of the supervisory and management boards of car parts maker Cimos and advisor to the president of the Court if Audit.
