Slovenia celebrating Labour Day
The main event in Ljubljana will take place on the Rožnik Hill, which already saw, like many other locations in the country, a traditional May Day bonfire on Saturday evening.
Along with the Rožnik gathering, which will be addressed by Ljubljana Mayor Zoran Janković, morning events have been announced in Kranj, Mirna, Sevnica, Šentjernej, Škofja Loka, Jesenice, Ravne na Koroškem and Miklavž pri Gorjancih.
Slovenia also honours May Day with a bank holiday on 2 May.
The international workers' holiday pays tribute to the labour movement and commemorates the Haymarket massacre in Chicago in 1886, where several workers taking part in strikes for an eight-hour working week and eight police officers were killed in a riot.
