International day against homophobia marked in Slovenia
Legebitra, a LGBT rights group, will organise workshops, poetry readings and social events at Tiffany, a club at the Metelkova alternative arts centre throughout the day.
The highlight will be a debate with prominent activists such as Suzana Tratnik, Anja Koletnik and Mitja Blažič.
The City of Ljubljana is taking part in an online photo exhibition of the Rainbow Cities Network, which it joined in 2014.
The participating photo shows Ljubljana Castle flooded in rainbow light as it received the city's award for LGBT-friendly institution.
The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia and Biphobia marks the day in 1990 when the World Health Organisation adopted a special declaration stating that homosexuality is not a disease or disorder.
Slovenia is not seen as particularly problematic with regard to LGBT rights, though there have been sporadic attacks on activists and LGBT persons, and the much coveted marriage equality was voted down in a referendum.
The country has been advocating LGBT rights at the international level and the Foreign Ministry said today these efforts would continue.
