Peter John Stevens wins silver at European Aquatic Champs
Clocking in at 27.09 seconds, Stevens was bested only by the home crowd favourite Adam Peaty, who won with a time of 26.66 seconds. Another UK swimmer, Ross Murdoch, won bronze.
This is the first medal from a major competition for Stevens, who turns 21 on 1 June.
His previous career highlight was the title of youth world champion in the same discipline in 2013.
Stevens is the son of an English father and Slovenian mother. The family live in Medvode, north of Ljubljana, but Peter John is currently studying at the University of Tennessee in the US.
