Director of the Slovenian Tourist Board (STO) Maja Pak told the press on Friday that data from the first quarter, which saw a 10% rise in the number of guests year-on-year, indicates another good year for Slovenian tourism.

This was echoed by marketing director of the Terme Čatež spa operator Alenka Mokrovič Pogačar, head of marketing at the Terme Olimia spa operator Vasja Čretnik and director of the Happy Tours tour operator Vilijem Hvalič.

Economic Development and Technology Minister Zdravko Počivalšek highlighted the importance of tourism for Slovenian economy.

The branch has grown tremendously over the past 25 year and revenues from travel exports have tripled over the period, he stressed.

The number of overnight stays by foreign tourists also tripled, while the number of overnight stays by domestic tourists grew by a fifth. The number of tourist beds grew by 70%.

The plan at Počivalšek's ministry, which sees tourism as a priority, is to increase income from foreign tourists to EUR 3bn a year.

The minister stressed that the foundations of Slovenian tourism are spas, mountains, cities and the coast.

The SIW brought together tour operators from 39 countries, most of them from Germany, Russia, Italy, the Czech Republic and Belgium. Tour operators from Taiwan, Brazil and Saudi Arabia attended for the first time this year.
