Half a million visit Ljubljana Castle in first half of year
The figure in the first half of this year is similar to the same period in 2015. Previous years have shown that more than 300,000 people visit the castle in the summer months.
The city expects the turnout in 2016 to surpass the one million mark for the fourth consecutive year.
The number of funicular passengers stood at 144,767, up 7.5% from the first half in 2015.
The Time Machine, a unique theatrical guided tour around the castle with costumed medieval characters, saw a 15% increase in visitor turnout.
During the main tourist season, the Time Machine is offered in Slovenian and English four times a day, while translations in six other languages are available on audioguides.
Apart from seeing the castle, visitors can also walk through the castle hill's row of chestnut trees and continue on to the castle vineyard and down to the Botanical Gardens via a marked path.
What is more, regular visitors can now purchase a season ticket offering unlimited funicular rides, access to all castle venues, discounts on tickets for events at the castle and other benefits for a year.
This summer, several open-air events will be held at Ljubljana Castle, such as the Film Under The Stars film festival, the PanĨ festival of stand-up comedy as well as many musical and culinary events.
The castle will also host events as part of the 2016 European Green Capital programme, such as the Library Under Treetops and Nature in Fairy Tales for children.
