Slovenian mineral water wins awards at Chinese competition

The competition took place under the American organisation FineWaters in collaboration with the 5th China International High-End Drinking Water Expo which runs over the same period. A five-member committee evaluated the submitted water samples in four categories.

The ROI-Roitshocrene water from Rogaška Slatina won gold for the bottle's design and bronze in the sparkling water category.

Stanislav Pšeničnik, the owner of Plod, said that the awards complemented the efforts that the company put into promoting and marketing the water, which has been one of the most recognised in Europe since the 19th century.

ROI-Roitshocrene is considered the most expensive Slovenian water and has been priced at around EUR 50 in Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, China, the Middle East and the US.

"Sadly, Slovenia does not see the potential this water has, as the country precludes the registration of mineral water in the Slovenian and European markets," Pšeničnik told the STA.

He added that the possibility of selling the water in Slovenia and the EU would enable the company to grow faster, make new investments, hire new employees and, above all, promote Rogaška Slatina and Slovenia.

Beside Plod, Pšeničnik's company also manages the hotels Sava and Zagreb in Rogaška Slatina.
