The share of the long-term unemployed and those 50 or older has been increasing, while the share of the young and those who lost jobs due to bankruptcies has been dropping.

The long-term unemployed - those who have been registered as unemployed for at least 12 months - comprised 54.7% of the registered unemployed in July, which is 0.4 percentage points higher than in July 2015 and 3.2 points higher than at the end of last year.

The share of the long-term unemployed has been rising because fewer people register as unemployed and those who are registered as unemployed for shorter periods get a job quicker, the Employment Service has explained.

Nonetheless, 13.6% more of the long-term unemployed got a job in the first seven months of the year than in the same period in 2015.

The share of the unemployed aged 50 or more also rose in July, to 36.3%, which is up 2.9 percentage points year-on-year and 3.4 points higher than at the end of 2015.

Meanwhile, the share of those under 29 dropped to 20.3%, which is 2.3 points lower than in July 2015 and 3.5 points lower than at the end of last year.

In the first seven months, 9.8% fewer persons under 29 registered as unemployed compared to the same period last year. Meanwhile, 6.9% more got a job.

Compared to July 2015, the share of those who lost jobs due to bankruptcies or were made redundant, dropped by 1.4 points to 20.4%. 9.6% fewer such persons registered as unemployed in the first seven months compared to the same period in 2015.
