The consulate will be headed by Consul General Gyula Földes, the Slovenian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

Foreign Ministry's director general for European affairs David Brozina and Hungarian Foreign Ministry's State Secretary Levente Magyjar said the opening was a result of the excellent relations and cooperation between Slovenia and Hungary and their respective ethnic minorities.

Brozina expressed conviction that apart from promoting the identity, language, culture and cultural heritage of the Hungarian minority in Slovenia, the consulate general will also strive to boost economic development at the local, cross-border and regional levels, the ministry added.

Hungary has had a consular office in Lendava since February 2014. The office was a part of the Hungarian Embassy in Ljubljana.
