Conference discusses opportunities of digital transformation
Speaking at the event as part of the Slovenia 2030 conferences hosted by President Borut Pahor, Public Administration Minister Boris Koprivnikar said that digital transformation was not a project or a business opportunity, but a comprehensive social change that could not be avoided.
According to him, what is necessary in tackling the challenges as part of this change is cooperation between scientists, the state, civil society and other social groups.
Having the system build on the opportunities, innovation and technologies to improve the standard of living is one of the goals of the strategy of Slovenia as a green reference digital country, Korpivnikar added.
The minister said that technology, communication and exchange of information in the process of digital transformation were not a result, but means that enabled the state to function differently.
According to Koprivnikar, sharing economy is a "winner in the industrial age, which will reshape all public systems". Sharing economy requires legislative regulation, adequate environment and quick reaction from the state.
Peter Pogačar, the state secretary at the Ministry of Labour, added that sharing economy could increase the quality of jobs, while it also posed a risk. "If we want digital society to be socially inclusive, we will have to adjust the systems of education, labour market and social protection."
Zoran Stančič, the head of the European Commission Representation in Slovenia, said that Slovenia needed to establish a culture of sustainable education, and that reflection about the future must be very wide. "The goal is to create an open and dynamic society."
Former Slovenian digital champion Aleš Špetič argued that the country needed infrastructure, solutions and social consensus. Slovenia is on the right track in terms of investments, "but a broader social picture needs to be included".
The participants also pointed to the problem of the lack of personnel that would support the growth of digital economy. We have to find the way to ensure rotation of talent and establish adequate initiatives, said Matej Potokar of Microsoft.
