Slovenian tourism presented in New York

Economy Ministry State Secretary Eva Štravs Podlogar said the first responses to the presentation proved it was right to organise such an event and that events like these were crucial for attracting more tourists from the US.

The STO made a similar presentation of Slovenia's tourist offering in New York about five years ago, but since Slovenia is becoming an increasingly popular destination among American tourists, the board decided to hold another one.

"The American market is becoming very interesting to Slovenian tourism and the number of American tourists has been rising in recent years. Along with various businesses, we have decided for a more intensive approach to this market," said STO director Maja Pak.

Pak said that Americans most frequently visited Ljubljana, but were also interested in active holidays in the mountains and enjoyed Slovenia's cuisine.

American travel agent Wanda Radetti, who mostly organises tours to Croatia and recently also to Slovenia, said the presentation was an "fine and intelligent" presentation of the country. "Slovenia is becoming more and more important to me and my clients," she said.

According to the STO, the number of arrivals and overnight stays generated by US tourists has been rising since 2006. While US tourists generated 106,992 overnight stays in 2006 in Slovenia, the number rose to 165,198 in 2015, putting them at 14th place in terms of overnight stays.
