November in Ljubljana dedicated to climate change
The Ljubljana municipality and public utility Energetika Ljubljana will be organising various admission-free activities and events, related to energy and adjusting to climate change at the information centre in front of the Town Hall and around the city all month long.
Visitors will be able to get free advice on the most appropriate heating system for them and tips on the use of energy and the subsidies available.
Experts from counselling network Ensvet will also hold various lectures on efficient and environmentally friendly energy use.
A series of events will deal with air quality. A special attention will be devoted to the presentation of a survey on black carbon, the second most important man-made agent of climate change after CO2.
The research as part of the GreenLight WorldFlight project, which has detected several new sources of pollution around the world, was also supported by the Ljubljana municipality.
The black carbon measurements were made by a Slovenian adventure pilot during several flights since 2012.
Energetika Ljubljana will also organise guided tours of the gas museum and a unit of the Ljubljana thermal power plant, which this year observes 115 years of gas supply, 55 years of heat supply and 50 years of power production.
Visitors of the information centre will also be able to see learn more about methane-powered vehicles, which produce less harmful emissions, do not create hard particles and are less noisy than regular cars.
Children will be guided to climate change by two literary heroes. They will listen to eco stories, play eco games, take part in an eco debate and an eco quiz and see a puppet show.
Several activities will also be organised by Dravlje and Šiška, whose local communities have been declared the green ambassadors of the project in November.
