EU foreign ministers to discuss EU-US relations

The meeting will debate EU-US relations after Donald Trump won the US presidential election, which has brought a great deal of uncertainty in trans-Atlantic relations.

The EU is worried because of Trump's statements he made during the election campaign which put in question a number of international agreements.

It is particularly worried about the agreement on the Iranian nuclear programme, the future of NATO, the West's policy on Ukraine and Russia, the climate deal and free trade talks.

UK Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson is expected to skip the meeting, but would attend a regular Foreign Affairs Council meeting on Monday.

Johnson yesterday told his EU counterparts to end the "whinge-o-rama" over the result of the US presidential race.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, on the other hand, said on Friday that Trump will have to learn what Europe is and how it works.

He also said two years would be wasted before Trump toured the world he did not know.

During the election campaign Trump labelled Brussels "a hellhole" and Belgium "a beautiful city".
