Pahor's office said that the visit would be an opportunity to deepen dialogue in all fields, especially in the economy.

Along with bilateral relations, international hot spots and regional developments, in particular in the EU, Western Balkans and Iran's neighbourhood are also expected to be discussed.

On the first day, Pahor will meet his counterpart Hassan Rouhani and Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, while talks with Speaker Ali Larijani are scheduled for Wednesday.

As part of the visit, Slovenia will reopen its embassy on Wednesday after it closed it in 2013 as part of austerity measures.

The opening is also expected to be attended by Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, with whom Slovenia's Karl Erjavec will hold separate talks on the same day.

On Tuesday, Pahor will address a Slovenia-Iran business conference, which will also feature 60 representatives of 45 Slovenian companies.

Trade between the two countries has been modest, never in the last ten years exceeding EUR 100m.

Slovenia sees opportunities for its companies in construction and engineering, information and communication technology, energy, the car industry, agriculture, metal manufacturing, logistics, pharmacy and mining.
