Slovenia improved from 14th place in 2015 to only rank behind the five Scandinavian countries, which are topped by Sweden.

The Solability index "is based on a competitiveness model that incorporates all pillars of sustained growth and wealth creation".

These are natural capital availability, national governance, intellectual capital, resource efficiency, and social cohesion.

Slovenia earned 54.8 points, beating Switzerland in seventh with 54.4, while Sweden got 60.9 points.

Slovenia fared best in intellectual capital, where it ranked third, while it was only 141st in resource efficiency.

It also got very good grades in the social capital sub-index (6th place) and the governance sub-index (21st).
