Trauma surgeon Marko Jug explained that more than 140 patients had been today received by 12:30, mostly due to sprains and fractures. The trauma department treats 180 to 200 patients on a average day.

The alarm, usually used for mass accidents, was used to organise in the best possible way. Jug explained that capacities at the hospital are already strained due to the flu epidemic, while it is likely things will only get worse in the icy conditions forecast for next week.

The unstable weather is also causing problems in other parts of the country, with an usually high number of traffic accidents for instance reported from the Maribor area in the north-east.
