"Teran battle yet another Slovenian-Croatian quarrel",daily Delo says
Slovenia registered Teran, a red wine made in the Slovenian Kras region, as a protected designation of origin in 2000, and says Croatia should have opened the issue during EU negotiations, but the EU is turning a deaf ear to Slovenia's claims. Other member states prefer to remain cautious, the paper writes.
Agriculture Minister Dejan Židan has decided on an aggressive and passionate rhetoric with regards to the Commission's plan, but the guardian of the Union acquis cannot be indifferent to claims that it is also responsible for Croatia's illegal use of Teran name.
"Speaking about various plots that have supposedly been organised behind Slovenia back with regards to Teran and showing off in front of cameras can not be the best diplomatic way for attaining goals either," the commentator goes on in Teran on Brussels's Table.
"Thus the battle for Teran...is becoming yet another Slovenian-Croatian squabble where rational and pragmatic proposals fall victim to relentless insistence on principles and individuals' political ambitions."
