Slovenia to market beekeeping know-how and technology
Slovenia is a global leader when it comes to know-how, competences and technology in beekeeping, the minister told the STA, as he attended the Green Week fair in Berlin.
The country is being presented at the fair with interactive pavilion Bee World to promote Slovenia's efforts to have 20 May declared World Bee Day.
Slovenia's pavilion at one of the world's largest agriculture and food fairs shows the country's innovativeness and ambition, according to Židan.
"The size of our country is not an obstacle," he said, adding that World Bee Day campaign was a symbol of regained self-awareness.
The ministries of agriculture and education, the Agricultural Institute, the Beekeeping Association and the Faculty of Biotechnology are thus preparing a new project - an international beekeeping school.
"We also want to market our know-how and technology this way. The school will enable progress in know-how and technology also in Slovenia," Židan said.
The Slovenian pavilion was visited by numerous delegations, with the minister labelling the talks as strong support for Slovenia's campaign to have 20 May declared World Bee Day.
Among others, the pavilion was visited by European Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development Phil Hogan, German Agriculture Minister Christian Schmidt and Berlin Mayor Michael Müller.
Židan meanwhile held bilateral meetings with his counterparts or deputy ministers from the Czech Republic, Poland and the Netherlands.
