Between January and April 2017, the concert series A Cappella at the Ljubljana Castle will take place at the Ljubljana Castle. In the pleasant atmosphere of the Estates Hall, you will have an opportunity to hear masters of vocal music who know how to conjure up a genuine musical illusion just with theirs voice, with no additional instrumental accompaniment. At the end of January, we will be treated to the vocal tricks of Italian ensemble Alti & Bassi. In February, we present the a cappella choir Bee Geesus, with an evening dedicated to gospel. In March, there will be a performance by the Slovenian Octet, who this season celebrate their 65th anniversary. Finally, in April, the ensemble Bassless will perform the greatest pop hits in a cappella guise. Come and listen to vocal harmonies on Ljubljana's highest point - you can't get any closer to the stars!

The celebrated Italian ensemble Alti & Bassi was founded in 1994 in Milan. This male vocal quintet brings together singers Paolo Bellodi, Andrea Thomas Gambetti, Diego Saltarella, Alberto Schiro and Filippo Tuccimmei. Their concerts are a real musical experience, as they have a unique way of combining superb musical performance with entertaining elements. The members of Alti & Bassi are distinguished by exceptional intonation, a wonderful sense of detail, and a great feeling for the selection of material. Their dynamic and diverse programmes embrace a variety of musical genres and include a number of compositions written especially for them. Alti & Bassi have for many years been regular guests on Italian television and radio stations. They have performed at prestigious festivals, such as the Festival of San Remo, at prestigious jazz clubs, including the Blue Note in Milan, and at well-known a cappella festivals, such as Vocal Total in Graz and Voice Mania in Vienna. The ensemble has received several awards, including the 1998 Premio Quartetto Cetra Award and the 2006 Premio Carosone Award. In 2015, their latest album La Nave dei Sogni received two nominations for the prestigious American CARA Award, as best jazz album and as best European album. In the field of a cappella music, the CARA Award is regarded as the most important prize in the world. This year, the same album was also awarded at the Academy in Los Angeles.
