Slovenia wants economic power considered in EU budget reform
The statement came after ministers reviewed the first report of a task force chaired by Mario Monti, the former Italian prime minister, for the period after 2020, when the new EU budget period starts.
Vraničar Erman said it was essential that the report had not proposed any new European taxes, but instead sought to preserve and improve the existing financing instruments.
She said experts were also thinking about which new sources could be used, though at the same time striving to do away with various special provisions.
It is difficult to say when the European Commission would propose new solutions, said Vraničar Erman, noting that the EU needed to wait and see what the future relationship with the United Kingdom would be.
While some estimates put the EU budget shortfall at EUR 10bn as a result of Brexit, Vraničar Erman said it was still too early to talk about the financial impact on the budget.
