Peace march for Syria stops in Slovenia
The group embarked on the journey in the opposite direction of the refugee wave to Europe on the Balkan route late December.
Walking over a thousand kilometres through Germany, Czech Republic and Austria in the past two months, the group entered Slovenia on Thursday and will continue from Maribor to Ptuj on Sunday and then make its way towards Croatia.
Over 2000 people have joined the march. Sometimes the group consists of 30 people and at other times 300, initiator Anna Alboth told the STA.
She explained the initiative was not for any particular side in the Syrian conflict - it was ordinary people showing support for ordinary people in Syria.
The march urges support for civilians in occupied territories, respect of human rights and peaceful conflict resolution.
"I'm not a politician or a lobbyist, so all I can do is walk and hope other people will join me," Alboth said, adding that it was sometimes hard but far from what Syrians were suffering every day.
In Slovenia, the group was joined by an initiative called the Peace Walk for Palestine, which wishes to draw attention also to the suffering of many Palestinians under Israeli rule.
