Statistics show Brexit impact on Slovenia likely modest
Slovenia's exports to the UK topped EUR 531m in 2016, according to preliminary data, with imports at almost EUR 368m. The UK accounted for 2.1% of Slovenia's total exports and 1.5% of imports.
Slovenia has consistently had a surplus in trade with the UK, averaging about EUR 120m per year.
Foreign investments are skewed in a different direction.
The latest data, for 2014, shows there were 163 UK-owned firms in Slovenia, about 2.5% of all foreign firms registered here, and they employed 2,100 people.
The same year, there were ten Slovenian companies in the UK employing just 15 people.
Similarly, UK foreign investments totalled EUR 297m in 2015, the latest year for which data is available, about 2.6% of all foreign investments.
Slovenia's investments in the UK were just shy of EUR 23m, just 0.4% of all Slovenian investments abroad.
The UK is also a popular destination for outbound migrations: of the almost 15,000 people who left Slovenia in 2015, 553 moved to the UK. At the same time, 170 Brits moved to Slovenia.
