Under the memorandum, Slovenia and Hong Kong will work towards facilitating wine trade and enhancing cooperation in this line of business.

The Hong Kong secretary hopes his visit would result in increased bilateral cooperation not only in wine business but also in economy and investments.

His visit comes after Židan visited China and Hong Kong last November, when Slovenia's wines were presented at the Hong Kong International Wine & Spirits Fair.

"I'm in Slovenia for the first time and I'm thrilled with panoramic views, hospitality and wine," said So, praising Teran, which was served at lunch.

"This wine is perfect. It has a full, very fruity taste. Teran is the right wine for our market."

The minister also said that Hong Kong was the second most important centre for wine auctions in the world, after New York.

Last year we imported wine worth 1.4bn euros and exported more than half a billion's worth to China, he said.

"We control the wine trade and Slovenia knows how to produce top-quality wines," said So, convinced there is still a great potential to increase wine sales in Asia.

Minister Židan said he was happy that the memorandum would enhance wine trade with Hong Kong, which he sees as a strategic door to the Asian market.

"There is also a lot of potential in tourism, economy, investment. Concrete proposals will follow in the next few days."

Židan also hopes that Hong Kong will use Slovenia as the door to enter the EU.

The ministers also discussed cooperation in technology.

Following the signing of the memorandum, So visited Vinakoper wine cellars.

On Monday, the Hong Kong Trade and Economic Development Office, the Slovenia Times, and JT Business Development will organise an event to promote business ties with Hong Kong.

The event will open with an address by former Slovenian President Danilo Türk on the importance of cooperation with Hong Kong.

Minister So, who is accompanied by a delegation of politicians and business executives, will take part in a panel discussion on business opportunities in Hong Kong.
