In only 9 days, the Festival ARSANA 2017, on all the indoor and outdoor venues of the city, will offer more than 50 events, which will create and feature more than 250 music artists in the field of classical, jazz, world, vocal and instrumental music.

We will mention only the highlits of the 9th Summer Festival Arsana: The Swingles (UK), Rade Šerbedžija & Zapadni kolodvor (HR), Vlado Kreslin & Beltinška banda, MI2 acustic, Sabina Cvilak, Miloš Mihajlović (SRB), Mak Grgič, Klapa Iskon, Port of life, Tadej Toš, Evening of flamenco, Jazz ladies and many others.

This year will be very special, because along with the Music Festival, we will also host the second European international vocal jazz camp with the New York Voices, two times Grammy winners.

During the music festival events like the Art dance camp, outreach events, seminars, dance performance, lectures, round tables, culinary events, performances by young musicians, fairy tales, workshops and many more will take place...

HIGHLITS OF THE FESTIVAL

THE SWINGLES (VB)

5-times Grammy winners, The Swingles, have been changing the vocal world for the last half a century. Seven young vocalists, masters of their art, form today's a cappella group. They have performed on many stages all over the world and made appearances on various TV shows, such as Sex and the city, Grey's Anatomy, Glee, etc... Their repertoire covers everything from pop icons like Björk, Annie Lennox and The Beatles, adaptations of classical music (Bach, Mozart), all to modern music of Luciano Berio, Pascal Zavaro and Azio Chorgi.

  

RADE ŠERBEDŽIJA & ZAPADNI KOLODVOR (HR)

Due to his extraordinary talent and exceptional technique, Rade Šerbedžija has been dazzling directors and critics, as well as theatre, movie and the TV audiences from the start. He has received many prestigious awards for his exceptional performances and stirred up the interest of many foreign directors and so found his way on to the big screens alongside famous names, such as Vanessa Redgrave, Tom Cruise and Clint Eastwood. In the year 2000 he founded the renowned theatre Ulysses in Brioni, Croatia. Whilst appearing in various movies, theatre plays and TV shows, he also recorded some very known music records. His interpretation could be labeled as chansons, and with his song Ne da se Ines he found his way into many hearts, of all generations. The immense performer will be accompanied by the group Zapadni kolodvor, with which he has been collaborating since 2011.

  

VLADO KRESLIN IN BELTINŠKA BANDA & MALI BOGOVI

Vlado Kreslin, and exceptional artist, has had a long successful career, with over ten released records. Who doesn't remember his biggest hit "Od višine se zvrti", or knows his legendary song "Tista črna kitara"? In the year 1991 he began to collaborate with older musicians from his birth town Beltinci. He started to focus on folk music and caused a rebirth of Slovenian ethno music and brought it closer to younger generations. With his band Mali Bogovi and Beltinška banda he started to combine yesterday and today, local and global. Beltinša banda today consists of three generations of folk musicians, the oldest being Kreslins dad, Milan Kreslin (born 1928).

  

LJUDSKA Z'GODBA

We present you a project, whose performers gained inspiration from Slovenian folk culture and used it to create an incredible outcome. Two young and inspiring Slovenian composers, Aleksander Čonč and Anže Rozman have written the songs, which combine folk and modern music, awakening an emotional rollercoaster in the audiences. The creators were inspired by the belief, that folk music is not part of the past, but it can be presented to the audience in an interesting modern storytelling way. The wind orchestra Jesenice - Krajnska gora, under the lead of conductor Dejan Rihtarič, will be joined by the mixed choir Jesenice, mezzo sopranos' Monika Bohinec, tenors' Klemen Torkar and the actor Andrej Roznam-Roza.

  

TADEJ TOŠ STAND UP SHOW

Tadej Toš has become a staple at the festival Arsana, bringing fresh jokes and stories, born on stage under the lights. We know, that he is ours. We know that he talks... fast and a lot... We know, that he talks until he sweats and that his tongue has mercy for no one, not even on himself. In his shows he makes fun even out of the most serious situations - for the sake of preventing automatization and motorization of life. This summer will be no different. He can't wait to step on stage.

  

VITO MARENČE FLAMENCO GROUP feat. FRAN VILCHEZ (SPA, SLO)

An international project, combining music and dance, presents the music of Vito Marenče, a guitarist, whose compositions are based on traditional rhythms, and primary elements of flamenco: a guitar, dance (baile), hand clapping (palmas) with jazz improvisation, sometimes combined with classical Indian rhythms (tala), Balkan and Arab melodic and Latin American influence (rumba, tumbao, ...) which through flamenco and its interpretation embrace tragic merrily, in both cases passionate and temperamental feelings, primarily coming from flamenco tradition.

KLAPA ISKON (HR)

Klapa Iskon was created back in the year 2000, in Split, Croatia. They have had over 1000 performances, all over Europe, mostly in France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands and Israel. They constantly collaborate with other renowned artists, also representing the local Croatian music scene, like Gibonni, Luky, Neo Belan, Tedi Spalato and others. Since the beginning, they have won many awards, in categories like interpretation, arrangement, jury and audience awards.

PORT OF LIFE (SLO, ZDA)

The Port of Life is a modern audio-visual narrative, based on the true and personal story of drummer Žan Tetičkovič, who lives in New York. In 80 minutes, the music journey takes as on the road of an immigrant, trapped in a tornado of emotions and psychological worries, trying to find his place in the new home. It is a story of immigration and acculturation. This exceptional artistic performance is an audio-visual adventure, with compositions combining jazz and classical music. The 11-man cast is homogeneously complemented by the pictures of Andrej Lamut.

ZAKLJUČNA PLESNA PREDSTAVA ART DANCE KAMPA (EU)

After last years first performance of the Dance camp Arsana 2016, joined by dancers from all around Europe, we present an even bigger dance event. Join us for this year's dance spectacle, combining jazz, modern, disco dance and hip hop, under the lead of internationally renowned mentors, including Hope (RSA), Giancarlo (ITA), Mimi Marčac (SI) and Ana Vodišek (SI). 

TOWEL OF SHOWER (SLO)

Towel of shower is a 10-man band, composed of famous names of the Slovenian jazz and pop scene.
The project was created with the purpose to entertain musicians, group members and the audience. With their performances around Slovenia and abroad they have charmed great audiences as well as music critics.

MI2 AKUSTIK (SLO)

The legendary MI2, started their career in the year 1995, in a small town called Rogatec. They broke into the charts with the song Pojdi z menoj v toplice, which only marked the start of success. Albums like Črtica (1997), Čudo tehnike (1998), Album leta (2000), Dečki s Sotle (2002), Dobrodošli na dvor (2006), Rokenrol (2010), Decibeli (2012) and Čista Jeba (2014). After celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2015, and are louder and stronger than ever before. This time around we will be able to enjoy them in their acoustic version.
