160 years of Southern Railway to be marked

Nekategorizirano

It will be exactly 160 years today since the first train made its way from Vienna to Trieste on the 577 kilometre railway which connected Central Europe with the Mediterranean.

At the time this was one of the biggest engineering projects in Europe, with the 561 metres long and 38 metres wide viaduct near Borovnica in central Slovenia standing out among a number of architectural achievements along the route.

The railway strongly influenced the economic and social development of the area and is tightly connected to the history of Borovnica, which is why the town also celebrates its local holiday today. This is also why the main ceremony marking the anniversary will be held in Borovnica.
