Golden Slovenian basketballers to be welcomed home
The celebration will start at 6 PM, with the players and the coaching staff joining the party on the stage at around 8 PM.
The players and coaching staff that took care of Slovenia's best achievement ever in team sports will be welcomes at the square where thousands of fans watch them win the final match against Serbia on a big screen.
National railways operator Slovenske železnice will bring fans to Ljubljana free of charge, with the only thing required for a free return ticket being a jersey, scarf, cap or other prop showing that they cheer for Slovenia.
This is the biggest success for the basketball team and the first medal ever for Slovenia at the European basketball championships, with the previous best result being the fourth place in 2009 in Poland.
As a debutant in the finals, Slovenia defeated silver medallists from the 2009 European championship, the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The golden Slovenian team are Anthony Randolph, Matic Rebec, Goran Dragić, Aleksej Nikolić, Klemen Prepelič, Edo Murić, Jaka Blažič, Jan Kosi, Miha Lapornik, Gašper Vidmar, Saša Zagorac, Žiga Dimec, Vlatko Čančar and Luka Dončić. They were coached by Igor Kokoškov.
