Slovenians seem to be the exception to sedentary Europeans, being the only EU country where the number of physically active people is increasing.

Running until 30 September under the motto Be Active, this will be the third European Week of Sport in which Slovenia is participating.

The campaign in Slovenia will take off with an event in the city of Nova Gorica dubbed Games of Coworkers, in which teams of coworkers will compete in basketball, volleyball and running, among other things.

On Saturday, a hike will be organised to the mountain cabin on Roblek in the Karavanke Alps, which hikers voted the best mountain cabin this year.

A conference and exhibition dedicated to sports, arts and heritage will open in Ljubljana on Monday, while an event will debate the role of nutrition and sports among youth two days later.

Tuesday will be dedicated to the elderly, while Thursday will honour disabled athletes. The week will culminate in a two-day Olympic Festival in Ljubljana, an event where children will be able to try out as many as 40 different sports.

The Slovenian Olympic Committee, the national project coordinator, hosted on Friday a press conference, which was also attended by Education, Science and Sports Minister Maja Makovec Brenčič, former NBA player Marko Milič and triathlete Mateja Šimic, among others.
