The results of early voting, in which 1.54% of the electorate cast their votes between Tuesday and Thursday, will be disclosed immediately, while the winner is expected to be known at around 9 PM.

The second round of the vote was marked by a rather low turnout, which stood at 30.45% by 4 PM, which compares to 32.02% in the first round three weeks ago.

The National Electoral Commission said that it had received 43 reports on alleged violations of electioneering blackout since the rule prohibiting any propaganda entered into force on Saturday.

The new president will take over on Saturday, 23 December, a day after he is sworn in in parliament.

If Pahor wins, he will be the only Slovenian president apart from first President Milan Kučan to serve two consecutive five-years terms.

If Šarec wins, the country will get the fifth president in independent Slovenia after Pahor, Danilo Türk (2007-2012), Janez Drnovšek (2002-2007) and Kučan (1992-2002).

Every Slovenian citizen aged at least 18 can stand for president. The number of terms a president can serve is not limited, but he or she cannot serve more than two consecutive terms.
