Kowarsch told Odmevi, a late-night news show, that Adria would certainly not be sent into bankruptcy, contrary to what many apparently wish. Instead, the German fund, which has owned the airline since 2016, will restructure the company and put it on "firm foundations".

4K Invest's plans include the recapitalisation, which was demanded by the Civil Aviation Agency due to Adria's poor financial standing.

However, according to Kowarsch, this is not the only reason the fund will raise capital. He said the fund believes in Adria's future. "Slovenia needs its airline, because it is very important for Slovenian society, tourism and economy that a national airline operates from Ljubljana Airport."

Adria is expected to end another year well in the red, which Kowarsch recently said was due to higher prices of fuel. The carrier posted a net loss of EUR 5.4m in 2017 after finishing the year before in the black due to the sale of its brand.

The carrier has recently been in the media spotlight due to a significant number of cancelled flights, raising questions about its future.
