World Cup meet in Maribor gets go ahead
Having inspected the race course for the giant slalom and slalom events on Tuesday, FIS World Cup ladies' technical events race director Markus Mayr assessed the state and thickness of snow on the piste as positive.
The finishing touches will follow, including treating the piste with water to ensure a level playing ground to all competitors, and putting up the spectators' stands.
Rather than at the weekend, the Golden Fox Cup will be held on Friday and Saturday this year because the skiers will be off to the World Championship in Sweden on Sunday.
Slovenia's best skier Ilka Štuhec will take part in Friday's giant slalom and is expected to attract a huge crowd of supporters.
A downhill specialist, Štuhec placed 10th in the slalom and 14th in the giant slalom in Maribor two years ago.
A total of 130 skiers from 27 countries have registered for the meet with six Slovenians on each of the events.
Last year the Golden Fox competition was held in Kranjska Gora, on the course hosting the men's World Cup meet, due to a lack of snow in Maribor.
