Piran Hosts the Exhibition of Juan Miro
5
The works in the exhibition were lent by the Lelong gallery from Paris and the Miro family. The exhibition, which features 15 drawings, 13 prints and six sculptures, is the latest in a series of presentations of the great masters of the 20th century. Miro is considered one of the greatest painters of the 20th century, along such masters as Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee and Wassily Kandinsky. In the era of cubism and surrealism Miro tried to show in his works the subconscious. He was born in Barcelona in 1893 and started studying at the Barcelona Art Academy in 1912. He moved to Paris in 1920, where he met artists such as Max Ernst, Jean Arp and Pierre Bonnard. The friendship with sculptor Alexandr Calder had a great influence on Miro's works. In 1958 Miro created the mosaics Wall of the Moon and Wall of the Sun at the UNESCO building in Paris. He died in Palma de Mallorca in 1983. until 20th November, Mestna Galerija, Piran
