The final figure could by up to 10% lower, as some employers filed multiple applications until Sunday, the service said, noting that the rise in the number of new applications had started slowing down today.

The subsidies are provided under the emergency law which entered into force on 29 March and the coronavirus stimulus package designed to aid the economy and individuals, which entered into force on 11 April.

Under the first law, quarantined employees receive compensation worth 80% of their wage, and until Sunday, employers filed 529 applications for 978 of such employees.

The second law helps employers pay workers who are unable to come to work due to force majeure, not only because of quarantine, but also because they need to take care of small children since kindergartens and schools are closed, or because of the closure of borders or stoppage of public transportation.

Until Sunday, the Employment Service received more than 23,500 applications for more than 210,633 such employees.

Employers have filed 20,900 applications for 169,850 employees who have been temporary laid off, and 3,950 applications for 40,783 workers who are not able to come to work due to force majeure.

So far, 568 employers' applications have been resolved, while 1,100 have been withdrawn as employers want to claim funds under the new coronavirus law.

The state will start paying out aid as of 11 May. Wage compensations are expected to be paid out on a monthly basis, on the tenth day of each month for the month before.
