Dominant in Yugosphere
The list, published by the daily Delo on Thursday, is topped by Croatian food group Agrokor, followed by fuel retailer Ina, while Petrol comes in third.
Ranked by last year's sales revenues, 13 Slovenian companies were listed among the top 30, including Mercator in fourth place, household appliances maker Gorenje in 9th, Renault-owned car maker Revoz in 11th, pharma company Krka in 14th, and energy utility HSE in 15th.
Retailer Tus Holding was 17th, pharma company Lek 20th, followed by retailer Spar Slovenija in 21st place and steel group SIJ in the 22th place. The 24th and 25th places were taken by the Slovenian arm of Austrian oil company OMV and by the conglomerate ACH, respectively.
Among the 25 energy companies, seven come from Slovenia. The best ranking Petrol is followed by HSE and OMV Slovenija. Petrol was also among the most active in terms of takeovers.
The list includes eight pharmaceutical companies, four of which come from Slovenia. Among the ten telecommunication companies, Telekom Slovenije is third biggest after Croatia's T-HT and Telekom Srbije.
In general, Telekom Slovenije also stands out for posting the biggest loss in 2010 (EUR 175m). Builder SCT comes close with EUR 95m.
The fact that companies in receivership or dealing with serious liquidity problems are on the list shows that rises in revenue and net profit are not sufficient indicators of the company's operations any more, the paper says.
