Complexity of Coalition Building

The plurality, 29.9% of respondents, want an umbrella coalition featuring the election winners, Jankovic's Positive Slovenia, the Social Democrats (SD), the Gregor Virant List, the People's Party (SLS) and the Pensioners' Party (DeSUS).

Over a quarter opted for a broad centre-right coalition led by the Democrats (SDS) and leaving out only Positive Slovenia and the SD.

Just under a quarter, on the other hand, want to see a centre-left coalition led by Positive Slovenia and featuring the SD, DeSUS and the Virant List.

Interestingly, the majority of Positive Slovenia voters are in favour of a broad coalition, whereas the SDS and New Slovenia (NSi) supporters advocate a rightist coalition.

SD voters are split between the centrist and leftist options, with DeSUS and SLS voters divided between backing a grand coalition and going centre-right.

The Virant List voters are the most versatile, fairly equally backing all three options.

In any event, Zoran Jankovic is seen as the best PM-designate by 55.1% of the respondents, with SDS leader Janez Jansa trailing with just shy of 30%.

The poll was conducted by Delo's Stik agency and involved 707 respondents.
