Shrovetide is one of the most eagerly anticipated holidays in Slovenia, when children get to dress up in crazy costumes and go trick-or-treat, just like American children do at Halloween. Ljubljana's Shrovetide carnival consists of a large masked procession through the city streets and a programme of entertainment in the Kongresni trg square. The procession includes, among others, various carnival figures stemming from pagan tradition, such as Kurents, Laufars and Morostars.
