Brnik - Logistics company cargo-partner opened a logistics centre in Brnik in 2019, one of the largest within the cargo-partner Group. The 25,000 square metres of warehouse capacity have been filled in just over a year, significantly ahead of schedule, which is why a planned expansion has now been pushed forward.

"We expected to fill our capacity in just over two years, but after a year we were already almost full. Rapid growth, the needs of our customers and good performance within the existing facility led us to plan for the second phase of the expansion ahead of schedule, as it was originally scheduled for 2024-2026," said Viktor Kastelic, cargo-partner's managing director in Slovenia.

Planning for the second phase started in 2020. A conceptual design has been finalised, and permitting and designing are currently underway. Construction is scheduled to start in early 2022, with the opening in autumn 2022, the company said.

The new facility to the north of the existing building will provide an additional 14,100 square metres of warehouse space over three floors and 9,000 pallet spaces.

In addition to short-term and long-term storage space and a fast-track area, the new facility will include a landing pad for drones, which could be used for parcel deliveries in the future.

Part of the facility will be adapted for providing services to online retailers, including a pick-up point for collection or return of packages that will cover the whole region of Gorenjska.

The entire building will provide storage for goods at a temperature range of 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, with an additional 13 loading doors to ensure even greater throughput and faster distribution. Office space will be also available to rent, cargo-partner added.

To meet the high demand for warehousing services in their logistics centre, the company decided to make an additional investment in the existing facility as well.

Due to the increased workload of online retailers, a packing room will be built in the centre, tripling the daily parcel dispatch capacity.
