Mura sail into next round of Champions League qualifying
Murska Sobota - Mura, Slovenia's football champions, have made it to the second round of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League after crushing North Macedonia's Shkendija 5:0 in Murska Sobota last night to advance on an aggregate score of 6:0.
After the first leg in Skopje a week ago was decided by a penalty shot scored by midfielder Luka Bobičanec, this time around the game was much more one-sided.
Mura started off cautiously, and both teams had quite a few opportunities early on. Bobičanec scored the first goal in the 25th minute and by half time Mura all but secured their promotion at 2:0.
From the 43rd minute on Shkendija had to play with one player short, which sealed their destiny.
"We've deserved to advance. We were equals in the first match, but we prevailed throughout the return leg. We were not our best selves in the first leg, but in front of the home crowd we showed what we can do. If we continue that way there should be no problem," Bobičanec told TV channel Sportklub after the match.
Mura will play the second round against Bulgarian champions Ludogorec on 20/21 and 27/28 July.
