Slovenia's jobless total falls below 70,000
Ljubljana - Slovenia's joblessness continued to decrease in August as a total of 69,292 were registered as unemployed at the end of the month in what is the lowest figure since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic. The total was down 21.4% year-on-year and 1.9% compared to July, the Employment Service said on Friday.
The last time Slovenia's jobless total was below 70,000 was in September in the pre-Covid year 2019.
The number of newly unemployed stood at 3,836 in August, a decrease of almost 30% on July and some 27% lower than in August 2020.
Out of the 5,199 who were deregistered, 3,252 found a job or became self-employed, down by almost 21% at monthly level and some 33% year-on-year.
The number of job vacancies in August, at almost 15,400, grew by 11% on July and 26% year-on-year. In the first eight months of the year the number of vacancies rose by 32% on the same period in 2020.
In the first eight months, a total of 78,458 were registered as jobless on average, which is almost 8% lower than in the same period in 2020.
In this year's January-August period, the newly unemployed total dropped by almost 41% on the same period in 2020. The number of those who found a job or became self-employed was up some 3% in the first eight months year-on-year.
The latest registered unemployment rate, calculated for June, stood at 7.3%, down by 0.4 percentage point on May and 1.9 point on June 2020.
