Chip shortage troubles continue for Slovenian vehicle makers
Novo Mesto - Revoz, a car manufacture and assembly plant based in Novo Mesto, is suffering from a shortage of electronic parts for its car models. They assessed that two-fifths of this year's planned production has been lost so far. Adria Mobil, a Novo Mesto-based company that produces caravans and motorhomes, is facing similar problems.
The semiconductor crisis has hit the automotive industry hard and Revoz has been feeling it for the entire year, the company told STA.
Revoz is the only Renault plant that produces the Twingo, which accounts for roughly two-thirds of its output. It also assembles the electric Twingo, the Clio and the electric Smart. It typically produces just over 700 vehicles a day and employs over 2,400 people.
The shortage of electronic parts and electronic chips has become a worldwide problem during the Covid-19 pandemic. Supply problems in the automotive industry are intensifying and also affect the supply of base vehicles.
That has had an impact on the organisation of work at Adria Mobil, a Novo Mesto-based producer of caravans and motorhomes that employs just over 1,300 people.
As the company explained for the STA, the production line for vans has already been closed for a month, and it will be followed by a three-week closure of the caravan production line in November, which has already been confirmed.
"We want to get through this difficult period by maintaining employment, creating the best conditions to emerge safely from this situation and responding to the growth in orders for our products as soon as conditions allow," Adria Mobil said.
They added that making any predictions would be difficult, as the situation is extremely uncertain on a global scale, but it is expected to stabilise at the beginning of next year.
