Luka Dončić sends presents to patients at children's hospital
Ljubljana - Slovenia's basketball star Luka Dončić sent toys and other Christmas presents to two hundred children currently at the children's hospital in Ljubljana, accompanied by a video message and signed photographs.
Dončić, of the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, donated hundreds of toys, from plush animals for babies to wooden toys for toddlers, as well as doll houses, Lego bricks, toy helicopters, cars and trucks.
Younger teens got headphones, while all the children also received a gift voucher, a signed photo with a message from Dončić and a hooded sweatshirt or T-shirt. Luka also recorded and sent a special video message to the children.
"These kids are going through very difficult times, and I hope that I can provide them with at least a little bit of joy," Dončić said.
"I hope that all these children get well soon and return to doing what they love to do in life. I am thinking of them and wishing them and their families the happiest possible New Year 2022," he added.
"We do our best to provide a comfortable and pleasant environment for the children, and we are especially grateful for such donations and support from the community," said Marko Pokorn, the hospital's medical director.
"The fact that Luka Dončić, a sports hero and idol, has found the time and a thought to spare for these children is truly incredible. We are extremely grateful to him for everything he has done, which is especially important in this Christmas period," Pokorn added.
