Drago Kavšek Named Mercator's New CFO
Kavšek, 38, was appointed to the post by the supervisors today, to replace Melita Kolbezen. He has served as chairman of Fructal since 2011.
Kavšek was one of the candidates for the post of Mercator's chairman, which however went to Balažič, previously CEO of the bread and pasta maker Žito.
Upon his appointment on 18 May, Balažič was hopeful that the new management would be operative before the summer. He said the plan was for a four-strong team.
The remaining two members are expected to be appointed at the next session of the supervisory board, planned for 18 June, according to the company.
The management headed by Žiga Debeljak stepped down on 29 March citing a loss of trust from the majority shareholders due to divergent views on Mercator's sale to its biggest rival in the region, Croatia's Agrokor.
In order to ensure a smooth transition, Debeljak will stay on as advisor to the board until the end of September, while remaining members will serve until their successors are appointed.
