Ljubljana - The scope of the cyberattack that broadcaster POP TV suffered on 8 February is becoming clear. The company has revealed hackers gained access to some personal data of individuals recruited for its shows, visitors to live shows, and personnel recruitment data. The hackers have not publicly disclosed the data as yet.

Data on registered users of their online services, such as video-on-demand, have not been compromised, but POP TV nevertheless advises all users to change their passwords as a precaution.

"We cannot assess the entire scope of the attack. We are directing all of our efforts into mitigating damage and preventing similar situations in the future," reads a statement issued on Wednesday.

In the immediate aftermath of the attack, access to POP TV's web pages, which includes the country's most popular news portal 24ur.com, was restricted.

The Slovenian Computer Emergency Response Team SI-CERT has been involved in the recovery efforts.

Unofficial information reported by several media suggests POP TV was the victim of a ransomware attack executed via an infected email attachment. The attackers have reportedly demanded a high ransom to unlock the encrypted data.
