Brussels - Foreign Minister Anže Logar said a no-fly zone over Ukraine would be the most effective way of preventing bombardment of civilian buildings, as he spoke with Slovenian Brussels-based correspondents via video call on Friday when he attended a meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Brussels.

Logar said that Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told NATO foreign ministers today via a video call that the Ukrainian forces and civilians were overwhelmed by missiles from the air, which also made it harder for the Ukrainian army to efficiently fight the Russian aggressor.

The ministers heard this but further debate is in the hands of member states, said Logar after NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg announced that NATO members were against a no-fly zone over Ukraine.

Logar also said that there was still no consensus among the allies on proposals to provide protection for humanitarian corridors to provide a safe passage for refugees.

The Foreign Ministry meanwhile said in a press release that Logar had told his NATO counterparts about the financial and material aid Slovenia had provided to Ukraine.

He also noted that Russia's continuing the aggression could further weaken the European security architecture and Europe's stability, including in the Western Balkans.
