Kačič gets new term at helm of University of Maribor
Maribor - Zdravko Kačič has been re-elected rector of the University of Maribor for a second four-year term, having been the only candidate for the post.
Less than a tenth of the almost 15,800 eligible voters cast their votes, whereby the vast majority are students, who rarely vote. Among faculty and other staff, turnout was over 50%.
Kačič was formally nominated by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and was subsequently endorsed by the university's student council.
In his re-election bid, he highlighted the adoption of the university's strategy for 2021-2030, investments in research infrastructure and immediate response to the Covid pandemic as his main achievements.
For the new term, he plans to focus on sustainable development, promotion of interdisciplinary cooperation and on complex social problems that he thinks the university should address.
Born in Maribor in 1961, Kačič has been a full professor at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science since 2003.
He was the university's vice-rector for financial affairs between 2011 and 2015 and served as the deputy dean for financial affairs at his faculty.
