Nearly two-thirds of employers intend to raise wages
Ljubljana - Nearly two thirds of Slovenian employers intend to raise wages in the second half of 2022, shows Manpower's survey on wage trends. Employers plan to raise wages to retain or attract employees, with most pay rises planned in IT and tourism sectors.
Over 30% of Slovenian employers plan a 5% pay rise while some 27% expect a raise of between 6% and 10%. Most of them, 36%, do not plan any changes in terms of wages, and around 1.5% of employers plan to decrease wages.
The survey included 531 Slovenian companies of different sizes with manufacturing, IT, sales and services being the most represented industries. It is part of a broader Manpower survey that includes Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Most pay rises are planned in the IT and tourism sectors, with all employers raising wages in tourism and 90.5% in IT. The former sector has been warning about staff shortages in the run-up to the summer season.
Most employers do not anticipate a pay rise in the car industry, transport, logistics, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and construction.
Companies that will raise wages to retain staff are mainly in the IT sector, followed by manufacturing, the services sector, tourism and gastronomy. Construction is the industry where most companies expect to raise wages with the goal to attract new workers.
"Companies fight staff shortages in different ways. There is a growing demand for foreign workforce which means a higher pressure to secure work permits quickly. More focus is put on working conditions, a positive environment, in-house training and promotion," said Nives Orešnik, head of HR at Manpower.
