Maribor successful in UEFA Champions League qualifications
Istanbul - The Maribor football team has made it to the second round of qualification of the UEFA Champions League after winning a return match against Shakhter Soligorsk 2:0 in Turkey's Adapazari on Wednesday.
After a draw in Maribor a week ago, the Slovenian team showed its supremacy tonight at the Atatürk stadium without spectators. Both goals were scored by Rok Baturina, in the 12th and 56th minutes.
The team led by coach Radovan Karanović started the match in the best possible way, with Nino Žugelj firing the first attempt in the 9th minute. The first goal followed only three minutes later.
The Slovenians continued to dominate the match with several good actions that were offset by excellent defence by the Belarus team.
But the Belarus goalkeeper was powerless in the face of Baturina's attack 56 minutes into the match to seal the result of 2:0.
Shakhter Soligorsk took more initiatives in the last part of the game but to no avail.
The Maribor team will now face Moldova's Sheriff Tiraspol next week.
