Dutch Musicians to Play 18th Century Music in Ljubljana
The concert, taking place as part of the Seviqc Brežice festival of old music, will offer an insight into the life of an 18th century Dutch violinist who adored sonatas so much that he wrote them down in a journal in different scales.
The Severijn ensemble has discovered several Baroque music journals containing over 1,000 melodies, providing a very personal and emotional insight into the favourite sonatas of Dutch violinists of the 18th century.
Among the sonatas played will be works by Friedrich Händel, Pietro Locatelli and Giuseppe Tartini.
Severijn was set up in 1998 by sisters Judith Steenbrink (violin) and Tineke Steenbrink (harpsichord). The ensemble, consisting of the two sister's friends Matthas Klenota (violin, viola), Judith Maria Blomsterberg (cello), Daniele Caminiti (theorbo) and Mirko Arnone (theorbo), explores chamber music of the 17th and 18th centuries.
