Slovenia's jobless total falls below 54,000
Ljubljana - Slovenia's registered jobless total fell to 53,935 in August, close to the record low figure recorded in June this year. The figure was down by 0.7% from July and 22.2% lower than in August 2021, according to the Employment Service.
The number of people freshly registered for being out of a job was down by just over a fifth compared to July but up by 3% year-on-year. By far the most saw their fixed-term job contracts expire.
The service removed 4,356 from the register of unemployed; 2,302 because they found a job or became self-employed, which is 8% fewer than in July and 29% fewer than a year ago.
Employers reported 17,602 vacancies in August, mostly in education, manufacturing, construction and health and social care. The number of vacancies was up 58% from July and up 14.4% year-on-year.
Between January and August 37,864 registered anew as unemployed, 5.9% fewer than in the same period a year ago, and 32,131 found jobs, down almost 27%.
Most, 19,983, registered because their fixed-term jobs expired, 6,258 became redundant and 2,876 were first-time job seekers. Year-on-year, only the number of first-time job seekers was up, by 1.1%.
In the period the number of vacancies was up by over 18% to 119,586.
The latest registered unemployment rate figure is available for June, standing at 5.5%, down 0.2 percentage points from the month before and down 1.8 points year-on-year; male unemployment rate was 5% and female 6.2%.
